It all started with a sold-out veggie menu in the canteen – whereupon our founder wondered why forecasts were made for the weather and electricity, but not for the number of guests in the catering industry. Since 2016, we’ve been researching Artificial Intelligence to help restaurants produce as many menus as needed to reduce food waste; while optimally scheduling their staff so there’s no waiting time or unnecessarily high labor costs.
The idea of Prognolite, a forecasting tool for the restaurant industry, was born. Together with the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW), a sophisticated, self-learning algorithm was then developed. Based on cash register data and various factors such as weather, holidays and trends, this algorithm predicts what the sales trend will be – and how staff planning and production can be optimally implemented accordingly.
Through countless conversations with experts and restaurateurs from the industry, we realized over the years that there was a great need for broader support in the digital area. So we iteratively expanded our tool with additional functions (and still do). This is how our AI planning tool was born, which now supports not only restaurants but also companies in the entire food sector in their planning.
